Ok, the story so far:

I had a slight bump while driving my car with a taxi, damage is minimal on both cars. It is questionable whether or not the taxi driver rolled back / began to reverse, but at the time of the accident I said I take responsibility (Was not in the best part of Town, felt a bit intimidated by the young Asian lads nearby who work for the taxi rank).

We exchanged details as you do .. discussed the option of getting the repairs done privately. Seeing as I am a young driver etc. Talked to the taxi driver who was understanding, shuck hands etc. I’ve since had my car repaired, the damaged part cost £2.50.

Anyway .. he said they will contact me Monday (It was a Sunday night the day of the "accident". 3 weeks passed, and to be quite honest I had completely forgot about the incident, no contact was received from the taxi company.

Then today .. I receive a letter through the post, it is from a solicitor, the taxi driver is attempting to claim compensation, because he apparently received whiplash as a result of the accident. I am fully insured, legal protection also, with Direct Line. Contacted them, and the matter is being dealt with, just need to send off a few pieces of information related to the incident.

I need to know if this guy will win the case? I bloody well hope not, greedy git wanting compensation. Luton has one of the highest false claim rates in the country, I just hope its one of those cases.

  Injury my arse.

Hi there,

My sympathys. It's all the fault of the bloody ambulance chasing lawyers etc. and the compensation culture that has come over here from you know where! Just type in "whiplash claims" into google and see what you get.

don't hold out much hope for you

I thankfully have very limited legal experience - but I should figure that if this person is going to claim injury from the accident, that:

 1. if a medical condition is claimed as resultomg from the accident, then he has independent verification from medical practitioners that this is medically evidenced,

 2. that the person can prove that you were negligent in your driving, that led to the verifiable injury

However, ambulance chasers as the solicitors may be, Direct Line are surely quite experienced in the manner, and not likely to part funds willingly.

Do you know anyone in the legal profession who can offer you some quick advice? If not, it may be worth ringing Direct Line for their take on the possible results of the matter, or else paying for a short talk with a solicitors, to lean what civil liabilities you may be up for.

Either way, my sympathies for the stress and annoyance it must be causing, but I would personally expect Direct Line to be pretty well experienced with dealing with such claims.

Yeah, in an ideal world... never admit liability (even if you are liable).  Did anyone witness you admit liability other than the taxi driver?
