Paypal is the only payment method I use online when receiving payments.
I dont have a merchant account and do not use any other methods like Stormpay etc.

Paypal seems to have the greatest reach in this market, but why do I hear of people constantly criticizing it?

Some people have had accounts closed down or payments frozen by paypal for no apparent reason. This has not happened to me but I can imagine once it does happen to you, it would leave a sour taste in your mouth.

I'm really happy with Paypal - there have been a couple of minor technical issues, but aside from that, I'm quite happy with it.

I've heard of horror stories involving Paypal - but I'm also aware that there's a lot of abuse with Paypal accounts, such as underage kids setting up Paypal accounts, and merchants who consistantly fail to deliver on goods.

In such instances, I wondered be surprised if it tends to be such people who are making the loudest noises against Paypal.

I have also heard a lot of horror stories about PayPal, but I have never experienced any trouble with them personally.  I have been using them for about 6 years of selling online.  The thing is... they are SO big and SO popular, you are almost hurting your business by not accepting PayPal payments in some cases.

What's really nice about Paypal is how easy it is to use - transaction fees are good compared to over processors, the money is available to withdraw as soon as paid (unlike Worldpay), plus if you refund an order, your transaction fee is already refunded.

I'm happy with PayPal for my needs, but it has had it's problems. It was ordered to pay out a settlement, but I don't have the details for that handy.

I have a paypal account but since I don't reside in the US, I am ineligible to the benefits of being able to use the card.  Paypal is the most widely used payment processor and after it, there is e-gold.   I wonder how I can get a US bank account so that I can have a Paypal debit card to withdraw my funds.

Feline, have you tried calling a major bank in the US like Bank of America or Chase or something like that?

It is hard to call as it will be charged as long distance.  I really don't know what to do with it coz even if I found a link about non-US residents can open US bank account, there were also lots of requirements that I find hard to comply so it is still not applicable.

I lost a lot of money with Stormpay earlier this year. They will nto reimburse so I am done with them. I go only through Paypal now but, there is always a risk to online finances.

Interesting conversation everyone. I heard about that class action suit too. That’s enough to make any company stand up and notice that they are being watched and anything that goes amiss will be taken seriously. I also know of junk mail I receive regarding another company who is calling themselves PAYPAL..who asks for account information etc. I decided not to go with Stormpay. They don’t refund money? That’s the pits!

How can anyone lose money through someone like Stormpay or Paypal, when there are records of the transactions? Unless they are not good at keeping their transactions straight. Has anyone heard of e-gold being half decent? I got invited to set up an account with them.

The problem with egold is that it is tricky to put money in or take money out.  I kinda abandoned my egold account.  It might even have something in it still - I should check that out.

I've had a couple problems with paypal, but I thought of them as the cost of doing business. A chargeback is frustrating, but luckily most of the customers I've had were really great to deal with.
