Product descriptions are pretty much the only content you get on some ecommerce sites.  That is why it is very important to get your keywords in your product descriptions and make sure that all products on one page are related so you can title the page appropriately.

Your product descriptions also have to be enticing and make the person excited about owning your product.

this link might be handy for some people: http://www.ecomresourcecenter.com/build/writeproductdescription.html

and I agree, product descriptions are absolutely vital. Lots of attention should be paid to them.

Thanks for that link!  That is a great site about ecommerce.

A question I always have about one of my sites that sells t-shirts.  All the t-shirts are 100% cotton, screen-printed, preshrunk, etc.

SHould I put that information in EVERY product description?  Or just in a basic "T-shirt information" section.

Even though it may be redundant; I would say to have that disclaimer on all the pages; after all the person will not be looking at the general section as much as the page of the desired shirt.

TIP: Also, make your descriptions as unique as possible. If you're going to paste in the manufacturer specifications, at least introduce it all with a good strong paragraph that sells the product to human users, and also helps make the page more unique for search engines.
