I hear a lot of people who say "I use Wordpress" when asked where their website is.  From what I understand Wordpress is just a blog, right?

Is a blog considered a website now?  Can you build a business with just a blog?

There are lots of sites out there that supposedly teach you how to build a big income with just your blog.  I think a lot of them are based off of Google Adsense or other advertising links.

I believe it may all depend on how you set things up and use them. Specifically, if you are a service provide.

For instance you can use your blog to write articles that explain the benefits of your service and include your contact details.

From another perspective, Wordpress has a downloadable version which you can integrate with your website. There is also website software that comes with blog areas

I wondered this too...from what I've seen from sites that mention wordpress, is it's more about using the layouts and integrated blogs than just stand alone blogs.

Wordpress is the software to run a blog - such as this forum software is SMF - Simple Machines.

Wordpress is probably the best blogging software to use - you can read it compared to MovableType - one of the other big blog platforms - here:

I blog and use adsense, affiliate info or advertising as well as ads that's I'm paid to write.

Wordpress is an option, but I chose the ease of a hosted program and it works well. You aren't going to get rich overnight doing it, you need to build a good readerbase, but it's something that you'll see some money over time.

Well, since I started this thread, I have learned that there are two methods of using Wordpress - hosted by them or installed on your own hosting.  The latter method allows you to really build a site with them.  In fact, I am using it for one of my sites.

It is easier to stick Adsense on Blogger though, I believe.

This is very interesting, since I have been interested in doing this. Does anyone know exactly how to make money blogging? I mean, do you charge people to got to your site? I know of one site where I would have to pay $9.95 per month to write articles and with the most popular articles - the more popular writers are paid from this money...which doesn’t bode well for the other writers..How would I go about getting people to my site and them paying to read my blogs? Does anyone know?

4silverstrea,

I can't answer your question about that particular site but if you are creative and you are getting traffic, you can usually come up with a way of making money.  More people = more money.  Even if you aren't creative, you can make a little (or maybe a lot) of money from Google Adsense.

Why would you want to pay money to be able to write articles?  You can write articles for free, and if they are keyword specific enough, they'll get up there in the search engines and then you can make money from them.

There are other ways to monetize a blog.  I know there are companies that match your blog up with advertisers who want you to post an ad or a link on your blog for a bit of cash.  Also, you can sell affiliate products or something like that.
