Local newspapers for me, definitely. But my business isn't just online so it's a different ballgame for most people here, i think.

I think reputation is big. I have only ever advertised once (aside from a Thomson Directory listing, which has been worthles) and that was an ad on a forum.

That got me my first wave of small clents.

After that, word of mouth.

SEO also works well - my biggest clients saw my website, liked the small business approach as opposed to being corporate, and have never looked back.

Adwords is helping me get word out and getting more traffic to my sites. I think they help leverage the field...I can advertise with the big boys and still show up.

I would say the paper for no on-line source.  But for an on-line source a Search Engine would work, and  everyone uses them.

Honestly, I think satisfying existing customers, thereby encouraging their return has generated the most income for me.
