Anyone done their tax return for last year yet?

I started business officially in the last four weeks of the previous financial year - so I now have a tax return.

Not sure what to do with it, other than try and ignore it for a while.

 Anyone actually filled theirs in?

I wasn't able to use the help of my mom this year, but I was able to use some of those college deductions in  Grin

I have an accountant - he does my returns in addition to my accounts.

Since I made the original post, I've had some real issues with accounts.

The bottom line is - get an accountant from the start, and make sure you communicate properly and constantly with them.

Otherwise it just costs you a lot in terms of money, time, and unnecessary stress.

I'll second that, Brian!

I used an accountant who had been a friend of mine. After a few years, I stopped reviewing my returns and trusted her completely. Then I discovered lies she had inserted into one of my returns that cost me quite a bit to undo. <sigh> Always verify your returns.

I usually wait until the last minute, which just makes me stressed. I have an accountant, which is a big help. But I keep putting off making the appointment, thinking I have lots of time, and then realize I'm close to the wire. It's a silly habit but I allow it to persist.   Cheesy

Well, I don't have any accountant friends, and I take care of the books myself.  Everything is pretty much simple for me right now, but promises to get more complicated next year.  I'm thinking of taking some bookkeeping and tax courses at the local University or something like that.
